Merrick didn't take long at all to get ready. Of course, he didn't put all that much effort into it either. It was the same as he usually look, stylish but not too over the top. He looked good with his gray suit and although it was definitely the sort of thing you'd expect for a dance, it still bordered on the more casual side of things. He had even paid to have his date swapped but then it was necessary. He was paired with some guy and that was just weird so when the opportunity to swap came up, he took it without hesitation. May was the obvious choice to him, despite all that had happened. Merrick could barely keep up with it all or even wrap his head around it, it was so strange but he still liked the girl. So maybe there were times when she literally wasn't herself, it still didn't stop him from liking her so taking her to a dance would definitely be nice. Getting to her dorm, Merrick knocked on the door, hoping to see her there and maybe walk her down to the dance. It would be nice anyway. He just hoped she was find with it all.

May wasn't one for dances, but she had signed up anyways. She figured that it would be fun, to see who she got matched with. When she had saw the list, and saw Merricks name she wasn't sure if it was a random match up or not but she could deal with it. She liked the guy and May was pretty certain he had a thing for her too.
So when she had decided on what to wear, May had a hard time picking something out. First off, she wasn't very girlie so her options had been limited until she went and bought something for it. Second, May didn't like the things that most girls like but she had to find something. So she had decided on a small strapless red dress. It zipped up the back and stopped a few inches above her knee. The bottom part of the dress was more like a petti-coat then an actual dress so she had picked it. She wore black tights and black flats. No matter what, she wasn't wearing heals. No way.
Her hair was down, and wavy with her bangs pinned back to keep that out of her face. She wore chap stick and white nail polish. Simple to everyone else, dressed up for May and she liked it that way.
She heard a knock on the door and grinned as she opened it. Looking up at Merrick she smiled for a moment before reaching for her bag. "Hey you!" she said with a happy tone.

Merrick stood at the door. From what he knew of May, the girl didn't like getting dressed up and looking all girly. She was more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl and he liked that about her but being a dance he knew that she would probably have to dress up a little more. Merrick didn't really care what she looked like as long as he got to have her and not one of those personalities because that would just make for an awkward evening at the dance. Still he couldn't help but wonder in the back of his mind at least what she might look like tonight. When the door opened, all thoughts on the topic became unnecessary and his eyes scanned the figured in front of him. She looked simply but great. It was formal but not over-the-top. It was pretty perfect. "Wow, you look great," he told her, watching her get her bag. "Ready to go?" he asked with a smile.

"Really?" She asked looking down at herself for a moment. May had thought she looked awkward in a dress, but it was a cute dress so she shook her head lightly and smiled up at him. "Well thanks babe, you look good too"
She nodded when he asked if she was ready to go and closed the door behind her and stopped for a moment to lock it. She had been surprised that he met her at her dorm, instead of meeting up outside of the dance but it was a good surprise. May wasn't sure if he was always like this or only trying to make a good impression on her. Or maybe he was just trying to make up for the other day but either way May was content with it. He was sweet to her, and didn't judge her. Well, as far as she knew he hadn't and if he had, he kept it to himself.
"So I was wondering if you had anything to do with us being paired up?" She asked looking up at him. She put her hand in his as they started to walk down to where the dance was.

"Yeaah," Merrick said. It was nice. It wasn't too girly or fancy and with flat shoes it was really simply but he liked it. That sort of thing just appealed to him for some reason. "Thanks," he said with a smile. He had just thrown his together at the last minute but it looked alright. "I.. may have paid someone to change it," he said with a shrug. If he had the means to do it then why not. There was certainly nothing wrong with that. Besides, his dad made similar moves all the time. A 'donation' seemed to make all the difference when you wanted something done. It was all very normal in his opinion. Merrick gladly took her hand. He couldn't picture going to the dance with anyone else, it just wouldn't be as much fun, not that he knew how things were going to turn out. The dance hadn't really even started yet. "You don't have a problem with that, do you?" he asked. He didn't think there was anyone that she would rather go with, at least not to his knowledge but it never hurt to ask.

May closed her hand that was in his, and put her other hand over it. She was walking slightly behind him, because her arm was behind his, but she didn't mind. She smiled as they walked, excited about tonight. she had been nervous when she signed up, because May wasn't good with people she didn't really know. Thats what had surprised her so much about Merrick. She had clicked with him, and that was hard for her to do.
She laughed a little when he admitted to paying someone off to get matched with her. "I don't mind at all, I wouldn't want to go with someone else anyway" She said with small grinn, looking forward as they walked.
Merrick always made her smile, and she liked that about him. May was really thinking positive about tonight, and just wanted to have a good time. though, she couldn't dance for shit so maybe it would be a bit embarrassing. But may had an idea that he hardly cared about her dancing ability.

Merrick was actually incredibly comfortable in the suit. He wore a lot of shirts and nice pants back home, it was just a lot more appropriate for the sort of places he hung out in and the sort of people he hung out with. Image was everything and he liked how he looked. Having access to expensive clothes and people to help you pick out what looked best was generally helpful. He may not know what colors looked good on him or what clothes were in this season but his wardrobe was always stacked with only the best. It was just another thing that he never had to worry about. It made life a lot easier too and Merrick still always liked the clothes he wore anyway. "Well good, cause if you were going if someone else, I'd probably have to come stalk you and beg for a dance or something," he told her jokingly with a smile. He liked her, that much was blatantly obvious by now and it was clear this was mutual which was nice. It felt more real with her than with any other girl he had been with. They would smile and laugh at his stupid jokes but it was fake, he could tell too. When may did those things it was genuine and Merrick wouldn't trade that for anything. Walking into the place, there were already a number of people in there but no one that really stood out too much. There were some decorations to give it a Valentines' Day sort of feel but nothing too fancy. "They really were all out this year," he said jokingly. "They've got balloons and everything," he said with a grin. It really didn't look all that done up and fancy at all. A couple of red balloons a bunch of long strips of red hanging of the walls and ceiling. Course, with all the parties Merrick was used to, this really was low budget and kind of dull. He had seen more elaborate birthday parties for dogs than this.. Living in a hotel with ballrooms helped give him a chance to see a lot and know exactly what sort of potential a room like this really had.

"You're assuming that you would beat me to the stalking" She joked back, moving the hand that was ontop of his, to his forearm. They walked into the hall and she looked around for a moment, unimpressed. At her highschool, this place would be completely decked out for a dance. but then she figured, this wasn't something that Hawthorne did, so she didn't put much thought into it. In fact, May didn't care if she and Merrick were just in her dorm room. She was with him, and that was enough to make her smile when the entered the hall.
There were a few people already there and the music was fast. May looked around and saw some girl grinding up on a guy and grimaced a little bit. Yeah, she hoped that Merrick was looking forward to that, because May couldn't dance like that. And the longer she watched the girl with the guy she was with, the more she concluded that she was happy she couldn't move like that. Sex on the dance floor didn't sound like a good time to May and she removed her hand from his and looked at him.
"I can't dance..." She stated for a second, with a shrugg. May was still smiling, and the song changed to something a bit slower, but still to fast for a slow dance.

Merrick laughed a little. "I think I'd like the idea of being stalked by you," he told her. He definitely wouldn't have a problem with it at least. He definitely liked the idea of it, or just or being with her. It was nice and it felt great being able to just be himself and know and she genuinely liked him for it. The room wasn't all that impressive but at least they had put in a little bit of effort, even if it was minimal. It didn't matter to him, he wanted to be able to take may out one day and show her all these great places all decked out and fancy, hell he could take her on his boat, that'd be nice.. but as much as he wanted to show her all these things, he was happy just being around her so even if it looked like it was thrown together in an hour, it didn't matter where he was. He turned when she pulled away. "I can't.. roller blade?" he told her as though this were some confessional moment or something, he was kidding of course and that much was obvious from the grin and what he said next. "It's okay, that just means I'll have to teach you," he told her, pulling her closer. "I do have a serious question to ask you though," he said, looking a little serious, still with his arm around her waist. "When exactly would I be able to start referring to you as my girlfriend?" he asked, taking his time to get the words out as he looked at her for an answer.

"You seriously can't rollerblade?" She asked with a raised eyebrow after he said he would have to teach her. She laughed when his arm snacked around her and pulled her closer to him, not giving him any objections to the movement. "We'll, you can teach me to dance, and then I'll show you how to rollerblade"
His next words spiked her interest and she lightly moved back and forth though she doubted she was anywhere near the beat of the music. She was moving to slow to actually be on beat with the fast music but she didn't care. Being here with merrick was plenty okay with her, the actual dancing hardly mattered to her. She looked up at him surprised at his question but grinned a little at it. She didn't really know how to answer, so instead she pushed herself on her toes and pushed her lips to his.
May would love to be girlfriend, and was happy that he had asked.

"Yeah well, I never needed to roller blade," he told her with a shrug. He could swim at least thanks to pools and he could ride a bike, only because there was a really awesome one he wanted because one of the guys at school had one but roller blading had never really come up. "That sounds reasonable," Merrick said with a nod, agreeing with her. He knew he would probably fall on his ass More than a few things but he didn't mind. It'd be fun at least and considering he could sort of ice skate well enough to not fall over, he assumed it would probably be just a little easier, or at least he hoped that it would be. Judging by the grin on her face, Merrick figured it was safe to say that it was a yes and the kiss only confirmed it. He kept his arms around her and kissed her back before pulling away a moment later. "Good, glad we got that out of the way," he said with a grin, as though that whole conversation had just happened. It was close enough though, the kiss practically said it all.

May laughed. "Just out of the way?" She asked in a happy tone. Whoa..did that just happen? Did May really have a boyfriend now? She looked at him again and shook her head with another laugh. She couldn't even wrap her head around it and although she was trying to be chill about it, she really wasn't. Not even even a little bit.
May turned around, and placed her hands ontop of his, her back was against him and she swayed her hips back and forth. Though, she still doubted she was with the music. May didn't go out clubbin' or partying so even though she was having fun, She doubted that she was any good. Ah well, May hardly cared at this point.
Merrick was her boyfriend?! Like, holycow. May couldn't get over this and she was a little sad that she wasn't with a girlfriend to tell her about it. But, it was alright, May was with him and that was plenty to keep her happy. She turned her head lightly to smile at him for a second before sticking her tongue out at him lightly and then turning her face forward again.

"Well, yeah. Nice and easy, no awkward conversation," he explained. It was awkward a couple years ago but if he went further back things were hell of a lot easy. Like back in the day by the jungle gym, when a girl would be sitting next to you, looking at you and just say 'hey i like you, do you like me?', you'd say 'yeah' while you barely even looked at her, glancing up maybe once or twice and she'd say 'can i hold your hand' and you'd say 'sure' and that was the end of that. Or when you were a little older and in a classroom, handing out a note that read 'go out with me Friday night?' with tick boxes for yes and no. Things changed over time though and Rick didn't care either way, he had May so he was happy and now they were technically dating so, things were great. Merrick just held her hand, his other arm around her waist as she stood with her back to him. Everyone else seemed to be doing their own thing. A few couples were getting pretty close but a bunch of other people just seemed to be standing around. She was still moving her hips a little but not quite to the music and although Merrick was not a professional dancer he had been to clubs and parties pretty much every week for years now. Despite being drunk on most occasions, he still had a good sense of rhythm and he could generally slipping into a move mid-song and having it sync up with the beats. Merrick laughed a little when she stuck her tongue out at him, she was just so darn cute. Leaning down, he kissed her cheek. This was nice, just being at a dance with his girlfriend. Yeah, that definitely sounded good. "Close your eyes," he whispered in her ear. It helped if she wasn't paying too much attention to what was around her. Moving his hands to her hips, he moved her a little, helping her move to the beat and guiding her by moving too. He didn't really care if she never got it but it was nice just being this close anyway and she seemed like she would pick it up quickly enough.

May wasn't good with boys. She wasn't good with conversation or making new friends. May was pretty plain, when compared to other people. She didn't have money, wasn't the prettiest. She was thin, but May sometimes wished she had more to her like some of the other girls. Her breasts were small, along with her hips and she had a small curve to her body. It was hardly there. She wasn't into girlie things, hated shopping and partying. So the fact that Merrick was into was nuts and she loved it. May tried to be as cool as she could be, not easily worked up. She tended to have her moments, but normally she was alright just going along with how her life went.
Merrick was bigger than her, and he made her feel even smaller. She was naturally thin and no matter what she would eat, may didn't gain weight. She never worked out or put any effort into her body type. She knew that a lot of girls would kill for that, but really it didn't matter to her. The dress that she was currently wearing almost was too big, and it had been the smallest size at the store. So the fact that she felt even smaller next to Merrick was slightly awkward for her but she supposed he liked how small she was. Some guys were into that and she grinned as he whispered into her ear.
She let her eyes close gently, and leaned into him when his arm found it's way around her waist. May hadn't had any idea that something as simple as dancing could be so intimate but she felt really close to him. He started to sway, moving her body with his and that was alright with her. May knew that she couldn't dance for shit, so if Merrick wanted to take control of the situation she wouldn't fight him.
She kept her eyes closed and snaked her empty hand up and around the back of his neck, pulling herself closer to him. her other hand was on his hand that was holding her around her waist and she grinned.

May was small compared to him but he liked that. She was just plain attractive exactly the way she was and Merrick wouldn't change want her to change. Sure, the whole dissociative identify disorder thing was kind of crazy and hard to get used to but so far it was alright. After the craziness of that night, Rick knew better now and he was going to be a little more careful about how he went about this. They might still look like her but they definitely weren't her.
Merrick smiled and just kept moving, leaning his head down to rest near the top of hers, feeling her arm move up to his neck, this was nice. The beat wasn't the slowest but Merrick could dance, he knew that you didn't have to move to every single beat. All you had to do was follow just one pattern and keep at it.
"See, you can dance," he told her with a smile, still moving to the beat with her. This was nice, they should dances all the time, not that they needed that. Maybe if he could take her home for a while, take her out to all these places. Sure they dressed up a lot and got all dolled up but May would never have to do that, not if she was with him, a lot of the girls would envy her.
Rick was a nice guy and a bit of a charmer but it seemed back home his main appeal was the money and power he got thanks to his dad. It was just because of what he stood to inherit and the girls who knew his name or who he was tended to just want a piece of that. May wasn't like that though, she probably didn't even know what he was worth or what he actually owned. Turning eighteen, a couple of things were transfered to his name so technically if anything major happened, and chances of that were very very slim, and if his dad decided to disown him or something he'd still legally have that and be able to survive a while till he worked out something of his own.
