It was still cold. Everything looked icy and still but Nathaniel liked this time of year. It was a time when everyone would go about their business but avoid staying outside for too long. Most would go back to their families and try to keep warm and safe and happy. It was never like that for Nathaniel.
He never liked to complain but for him, home meant having your guard up and knowing that it wouldn't make any difference anyway. He had been punishing himself all this time for something that really wasn't his fault o begin it. All that misplaced blame had left him wishing he was as cold and numb as winter itself but that never happened.
This was why the boy enjoyed this time of year. Most just kept to themselves on the street, bundled up in their coats, hiding away from the world. Christmas was when it was cheerful and usually it was alright but January and February, people would forget the cheer and things would go back to just being cold and lifeless, a bit like him.
Coming back out to the lack, he found a familiar large rock. he had sat on it not that long ago and he had met Cameron here. She was nice but apparently that was all a lie. She was just playing her little mind games and Nate had mistakenly thought that he had made some sort of friend in this god forsaken place. He was wrong and now he was back to wondering if it was even worth it anymore.
Why make a friend when it's not going to be real anyway? Why bother with anyone at all? Why wish that one day you'd meet someone who'd break past your defenses and actually make you happy for once? Those were all questions that Nate just didn't have answer for anymore. He slumped down against the side of the rock, leaning his shoulder against it, curled up in a ball and hiding from the world. No one would find him here..

Flo wasn't sure why she was outside, she was just so damn bored. And hell this place was cold, freezing ass cold. Unlike Florida, which was the opposite of this, like complete opposite. Which wasn't something she was used too, so what she did was put on jeans and a long sleeve shirt. He bundeled up in her sweater and even grabbed her blanket and slipped on her sneakers. Damn she was still cold as she walked out the dorms and wrapped herself in the blanket.
God she had been so cold that she didn't ever travel and find out what was behind this school. So she decided to look around, because well she was less cold wrapped in all the things she was wrapped in. Yeah she probably looked strange with her hair thrown in a ponytail, and her outfit looking like she was a hobo. But that didn't matter much to her at the moment, not like it usually did. It was too early and she felt to much like crap.
But she had found the lake on her wonderings, it was maybe ten or fifteen minutes worth before she saw someone. She had yet to speak to the guy, because most people she spoke to were on the chat. And well he wasn't on any of the times she was. So she tilted her head, pulled her blanket around her and walked slowly to him. "Hey I'm Flo," she said feeling the need to introduce herself.
She would of reached out her hand, if they weren't frozen and keeping her blanket on her. So instead she just smiled and didn't make to move away or closer. She was in a good mood that morning, which was a strange thing since she didn't have her meds. But still she looked around like usual, watching for birds. That was the important thing, not to get attacked. Cause that usually caused her to flip out. And she wouldn't want that around this new person. "I thought I should uh introduce myself. I havn't seen you around," she said with a shrug.

Nate stayed in the corner, keeping to himself, thinking about the dance and just life in general at the moment. It really wasn't what he was hoping it would be but Nate blamed himself for a lot of it.
Hearing footsteps, Nate moved over a little, at least just to get out of the way and stay hidden but then he looked over to see a girl approaching and decided to stand. It would have been weird if he just avoided her altogether. No, most people would have thought something was wrong if he did that.
When she introduced herself, Nate just gave her a half-smile. "I'm Nate," he said, giving her his name. Flo, he hadn't heard her name around the school but then he didn't exactly pay too much attention to much of what went on either.
He watched as she looked around and quietly wondered what it was she was looking for or looking at. The skies were clear and there wasn't really very much around but Nate figured he shouldn't ask about it.
"Yeah I.. Don't really get out much" he admitted, secretly glad that there was no offered hand to shake and no moves to get closer. This at least kept him calm enough to talk and just relax, or at least be as relaxed as was possible for someone with a lot of anxiety problems.

Flo wasn't shy at all, so her coming out and randomly telling this guy Hi wasn't unusual. Though her being happy was unusual. It might of been the fact that she hasn't yet pucked for the day, so her meds had actualy traveled properly through her systerm for once. Which was always a good thing, especially since this girl wasn't cute or anything when she was angry or upset. Which would be a very bad combination, one many people have lived through. She didn't hurt anyone unless she was angry, but she got overly emotional on her bad days and most people don't like dealing with crying girls. Definetly the ones that didn't know why they were even crying. Which summed up Flo to perfection.
She smiled and sat down where she was, she didn't want to freak him out. So she was being very quiet, and she wouldn't do anything until he said it was okay. She was always like that, waiting to be told what to do, when she met knew people. She didn't like people not knowing her, and it seemed like the best way to meet someone and get along well with them. Like shethought she was with this guy. For the moment anyway. She nodded and bundled in to her blanket, "Nice to meet you Nate."
She laughed cause she hardly got out either, due to the coldness of this horrible winter. She hated this state, Maine, uck. She rather be back partying in Florida with her friends. Though she had never actually done anything bad at said parties, she just liked hanging with all the people at her old school. It was amazing and warm, hell she could be at the beach if she wanted. Here? The only place she can go and be warm is her room. Where she stayed for the most part. But it was boring sometimes. So she nodded, "Yeah it's the same for me."

Nate watched as she just sat down where she was, a little confused by this. She didn't move forward to try to shake his hand or anything. Usually that was what most people would do but the girl seemed fairly content to stay where she was a good distance away. Nate hadn't expected it but he wasn't about to complain either since this was a good things.
So instead he just sat back down where he was and watched her. "Nice to meet you too," he told her. It was a little unexpected how she was doing exactly everything he would want her to without having to say anything about not coming too close but Nate wasn't about to question it. Why look a gift horse in the mouth or something, right?
Nate just nodded. At least they had that in common but now came a moment of silence and he knew he should fill it with something but he wasn't sure what. she was pretty quiet so far, just the way he was but Nate wasn't sure how help that at all so he asked the only question that was on his mind so far.
"What were you looking at before?" he asked, he didn't need her to answer but at least he had said something so this was his end on the conversation taken care off. That was just how he saw it sometimes, a conversation was a task he had to get through.
