Nathaniel had been keeping out of the way. He had been here for a long time and still he had barely made a friend. Nathaniel spent most of his avoiding people but it wasn't good. The counselors bought it up every time, telling him that he should try and put himself out there more that he shouldn't use the phobia as an excuse. It was the same thing over and over but telling him wasn't going to help him. Unfortunately this was one of those 'we can't help you until you help yourself' sort of situations and as much as Nathaniel knew it, it still didn't stop him from feeling that he wasn't going anywhere. Nothing was happening in his life. He went out and looked at things and thought and reacted to what was in the world but it just wasn't the same. He had only really spoken to a few people and as lonely as he felt every hour of every day he just couldn't bring himself to talk to another person and even if he did get the chance to do it, Nathaniel very much doubted that he would even know how or where to begin. Getting to the courtyard, Nathaniel carefully avoided the benches. It was still cold out but he didn't mind, as least with the afternoon sun, it was bright and somewhat nice outside. Avoiding the benches had become a habit now. He found that sitting in them would only end with people sitting beside him and him awkwardly moving away unless they said something. If they said something they he would talk for a moment or two and find the first excuse to leave. So there he was, finding his way to a tree and just sitting down underneath it. Leaning his back against it, Nathaniel just sat quietly, staring off at nothing in particular and just zoning out. He could sit quietly for hours and no notice anything around him. it was a useful skill he picked up for when he had nothing to do. His homework was done and with no friends to hang out with, this was just another way to spend his day. It was a waste but Nathaniel didn't like the other options. it was hard being the new girl at the school, especially being rose's type of girl at this crazy new school. she found it odd how they kept all these students in one school; keeping high-risk violent kids with low-risk anorexic kids such as herself seemed a bit . . . dangerous. well, it's not like too many things made sense to her at this school - it was almost a complete one eighty from where she was raised.
she had tried going into the student chat, but that didn't really turn out too well; there were too many kids in there, already with their cliques and knowing how the others work. it made her miss her friends back home; the way they would always call her up to go to parties and talk about boys and actresses and actors. ah, the good ol' days . . .
rose wrapped her mid-thigh length leather jacket around her body, covering her shorts and part of her knee high lavender hot topic socks. she liked the cold, which was why she wasn't really dressed for the weather; after always spending the winter in light clothing and a semi-thick jacket, it was nice to be able to feel the cold in her bones. at least, to rose, it was a good feeling.
the thin girl walked around the courtyard, looking for a place to lay down and relax. she noticed a tree with a boy leaning against it; since most other places were taken, she figured why not. smiling brightly, rose practically skipped over to the tree and sitting against the tree, about a foot away from the boy. " uh.. hi~ " she said to the boy, a bit shyly because of her nerves.

Nathaniel was lost in thought or was it a lack of thought, for a while. It was cold and everything just seemed very still. There was no life, no sound, no nothing but he didn't mind it. This wasn't something that Nathaniel would never have a problem with or complain about. He liked the silence and the solitude, the only problem was that he hated i as well. He wasn't some anti-social world-hating psychopath. He didn't want to be locked away it just happened to be the easiest option but then life wasn't about easy options. Nathaniel knew that probably better than most. He had his own share of problems and he had been here a long time now but not one person could tell you a single thing about him. The ones who bothered to talk to him would know his name and perhaps his phobia but no one at all in this entire school, with the exception of certain staff members, could tell you a letter more about the boy. He was a mystery wrapped in a riddle and dipped into an enigma but that was life for him and he still tried to get used to it rather than work out a better way to live. He sat there for a moment and things were silent until he heard a voice. Nathaniel turned with a startled look, hand immediately on the ground to push himself off of it but he stopped. He stared at the girl like a deer in headlights for a moment before slowly relaxing a little and moving the hand to his lap. "Hi," he said, looking down at the ground. She's just a girl, she's harmless, he told himself. She even seemed a little shy and quiet, something he could definitely relate to. Nathaniel looked back toward the school for a moment, wondering if he should just leave and go back to his room. No, his room mate would be there and although the guy was nice enough and left him alone, he didn't want to be around him. Turning back to her, Nathaniel just stared, not really certain how this was suppose to go. He knew that he should make friends, the councilors would urge him to but how? How did one do it? Should he ask for her name? Should he give her his? There weren't really clear on that part. "I'm Nathaniel," he decided to tell her. "You can call me Nate though," he told her. He could have just introduced himself as Nate but people who assume it was short for Nathan which wasn't his name thus causing mild drama so this way was easier.
