Winter. A season where obscene amounts of snow fall and blanket the ground and everything in the region. Not to mention it could start snowing rather randomly on a day that was supposed to be nice. Gabrielle was in one hell of a predicament, not that she cared to much it was just water and would dry off in a bit. The thing she did care about was getting up to the library to finish a rather pressing project. She had taken electives that were half-year courses and well now she was mobbed with lots of projects to do and very little time to get it done considering she was more often meeting new people and enjoying that more than doing her work. The senior however was a hard worker, she just got distracted....easily. Running her hands through her hair, which was now blonde instead of her usual pink tint. Eh, she'd fix that later.
Gaby remembered the looks people gave her when she first arrived. Most peopled looked at her like that, Gabrielle didn't care, they could think what they wanted of her, she didn't concern herself with them. The same people still gave her those looks now, as if a girl with short hair is wrong or something. Rolling her eyes and winking at one particularly cute girl as she sauntered past she chuckled. If there was one thing Gaby was doing it was amusing herself on her way to work. Fortunately by the time she reached the library Gaby had dried for the most part and nodded to the teachers in the book laden part of the building before going to browse the aisles looking for what she needed. "History of photography, worst project ever." she muttered before grabbing a few books and sitting down at a rather isolated table to force herself to take notes. As long as she saw nobody she'd be able to finish this in one night!
To bad her plan went awry when her eyes spotted another girl headed her way..

Amanda was a very smart junior, in her old school she had taken many senior classes and was going to graduate early. But of course when the stupid peice of shit school transfered her to here, they lost all her old records. So she was taking some of the same classes she took last year. What the fuck. She hated it, but whatever, it was life and it didn't bother her at all. The classes were easy A's so she'd just do all the shit.
But you might wonder why the usually fearful Amanda was out of her room for the third day in a row. Ah, it was cause she needed a new book. Yup something that wasn't Othello, not that she didn't enjoy Othello, it was her favorite play. She just needed a softer read, something not as big or with big words. Which was funny cause normally wanted something with big words, but it was to hectic at the moment. Trying to do a bunch of things all at once
She ran a hand through her long blonde hair, with the pink and blue streak down her bangs. Leo had called her rainbow racoon? Really? So original. He was way to annoying for his own damn good. So as she made her way to the library, she waved to a few people who she actually knew. Which was surprising that she was waving to people, or that she actually knew people.
So she made it into the library she saw a cute girl sitting all alone. Taking in a deep breath she made her way over to her, which was also something that was a site to see. But Amanda wasn't exactly anti-social, she just didn't enjoy people's company. Because most people just bothered the shit out of her. Though she was trying now. She really was.
She sat down across from her and gave a soft smile, "Um Hey."

"Um Hey."
The girl had sat right across from her. Great, what a way to distract her. Her eyes flitted to the girl in front of her and she closed the book, stretching before casually grinning at the girl. She was rather pretty, and the pink and blue streaks in her bangs only earned her more points in this girl's book. "Hey beautiful, did ya need somethin'?" she said with an amused voice. Running her hand through her short hair once more she continued to wonder why some random really good looking girl would just walk up randomly to her and start talking. Normally people avoided her, maybe she was different eh? She looked back at the book and sighed before re-opening it to the history of Polaroid photography. God damn what a boring thing to read about. Even though Polaroid photography was her favorite type of photography. Her side of her dorm was covered in different Polaroids of people she knew, places she'd been, and old memories.
"Mmmm, Polaroid photography. A dying art, nobody uses Polaroids anymore, sad really." she commented to nobody in particular before she chuckled. "Ah, it's rather rude of me, My name's Gabrielle, but call me Gaby for short."she introduced herself so fluidly before hearing that familiar pang of Lilee acting up. Lilee just shut up and go away for a while. Let me make at least one friend around this place. she thought at that other persona that resided in her mind the more brash and obnoxious personality. It was rather plain to see by the looks of it the other girl was quite shy, or forcing herself to be social. Maybe someone had put her up to speaking to the freak child? Eh, who knows with the people in this place. She stared at her empty notebook and instead of taking notes on the topic she was reading up on she began to idly write lyrics. One of her many small talents that she possessed.
The lyrics were just something she wrote whenever she felt like writing instead of doing what she needed to do. But even then, she couldn't focus on writing those with this mystery person just sitting there quietly. "Don't need to be shy around me, I don't bite."..... hard.

Amanda would of blushed if she hadn't trained her body not to show any emotion. It took years of practice and she still hadn't mastered it so if someone was looking close enough they would see the little bit of pink that rose onto the girls cheek. Working to hide it she let her hair fall over her shoulders and cover her face. It was a bonus to long hair, she could hide the things she didn't want anyone to see.
She shrugged, "Just company." She wasn't any good at flirting so she wasn't even going to try, she was better at acting like a bitch. But she was trying to not do that as much. To open up? Whatever she was just tired of being bored all the damn time, and if she got out more maybe they'd finally let her go home. Not that she wanted to go home, her home life sucked, but she could go back to her usual routine, though maybe if she got over this irrational fear she could go home and be normal for once? Eh whatever she just wanted to go home. that was it. HOME. But here she was starting up conversations, something she never did at home. Always only talking if someone said something to her.
She leaned over to take a look on the book she was reading and she made a slight face. Uck. Her and Photography did not work. She was much better at music. That was her life, she lived for writing songs. It was just something she did on her spare time. Something she enjoyed doing. So she pulled her notebook out, it held all her music, every last thing she wrote. Or three pages full of them anyway, she had three other notebooks in her dorm. "Photography?" She shook her head slightly, "I was never able to get into it at all."
She smiled, "It's nice to meet you." She started to doodle on the notebook, a treble clef, some half notes and a few quarter notes. Finally she flipped it open and looked up, "Oh sorry. I'm Amanda." She shrugged like her name really didn't matter much. So she looked back down and started to hum the melody of the last song she wrote. She felt relaxed already and she looked up when Gaby said something.
"Oh. Um..I didn't expect you to bite," her cheeks grew a brighter red, one actually noticeable.

"Just company"
Company eh? Well she made one hell of a choice in choosing Gabrielle for company. Gaby grinned at her and chuckled lightly before finally just tossing the book aside for now. Who was she to ignore the girl with boring work? It's impolite anyway, so she finally spoke once more noting the faint color on her face and the way she was hiding it with her hair. "Well, You picked one hell of a person to hang out with beautiful." The woman looked at the clock, it was going on nine pm. Plenty of time to get to know this rather intriguing girl. She was cute in her mannerisms already and they'd known each other for less than a minute or so. "I find it rather interesting that you chose me to spend your time around," She chuckled a bit before continuing. "Most people tend to stay away from people like me y'know? At first glance, I don't exactly look like someone anyone would want to be seen around eh?"
Gaby watched the girl study the book she was reading and she rolled her eyes. "I had to take some bullshit classes to fill up my empty bells. Photography was one of those bullshit classes. If I had my way I'd be in the music classroom trying to figure out if they had any guitars. I left mine back in Arizona." She thought back to Arizona for a moment, smiling slightly. The reason she was here though was because Lilee ruined a job interview. Damn her sometimes, and other times bless that alternate personality of hers. Looking at her notebook she raised a brow at the lyrics she had so blindly written without much effort. Her writing was rather ornate without much effort, small curls and accents made each of the individual letters almost a work of art within themselves. Perhaps it was thinking back to that man who got her sent here, the guy she would forever be bitter towards, but wouldn't hate. It wasn't worth hating people.
LA told me "You'll be a pop-star" All you have to change Is everything you are
She spoke the small set of lyrics quietly, pleased with her work obviously. Then the girl finally introduced herself, "Nice to meetcha Amanda." she said with a smile. "Hmm that's a real pretty name you got there, nothing like my weird name my parents decided to give me. Not that I complain, I'd rather be different than be the same as everyone else." She admired the other girl's voice. It was damn good, and rather pretty so much so that she was almost sad when she stopped humming and then looked at her now with brighter red cheeks. Gaby grinned a little bit at her comment, "Some people think I do." she paused. "Y'know, you shouldn't hide that pretty face, even if you're blushing." Oh, there it goes. The shameless flirting side of Gabrielle had finally showed its face. Even though Gaby meant every word she spoke, it was rather early for those sort of compliments eh?

Amanda was really bad at normal human things, not because she wasn't human. She just spent little times watching people interact, usually hiding from any relationship she could. Until obviously now. She was looking for a friend, a strange thing that never happened before in her life.So at this moment she was kind of nervous and having scary freaked out things going on inside as she sat here. She wasn't used to being around people and well so she didn't have the usual reactions to people's appearances.
Plus she knew better than to judge a book by it's cover. Amanda always seems to be a bad-ass who hates everyone, but if someone stayed(which she usually didn't want) they'd find a shy sweet and very smart young lady. So yup Gaby's looks didn't have the same effect as they might a normal human being. So she shrugged, "I'm not a very judgmental person i guess."
Now stupid classes, Amanda understood that. "Yeah I would be taking stupid classes if they didn't make me retake some classes I took last year. They lost a bunch of crap during school transfers. I should be in like all senior classes practically." She gave a shrug, she finally got used to it after awhile. It stopped bothering her when she realized she could write songs in class instead of paying attention. "You play guitar?" Now guitar was something Amanda could talk about. She loved her music, it was her life and the one thing she enjoyed with a burning passion. "I love my guitar. I would have it with me..but not sure playing in the library would be very smart," she said this with a soft laugh afterwards.
Amanda tilted her head slightly as she watched Gaby write down the words and she gave a soft smile. Her own lyrics weren't the best. She wasn't good at lyrics, now the melodies and things she was amazing at. She just never liked writing the actual lyrics, they happened but it sucked. Or that was her opinion anyway.
":Yup," she said with a smile, "Yeah Amanda is the only normal part of my name Amanda Katrina Tumlin? really?" She shrugged, she had gotten used to the strangeness of her name and actually liked it after awhile. It was good to be anything but normal. She felt a soft laugh escape again and she shrugged. "I'm not most people," she said with a smile. Oh god, did her face get even more red. Okay out of all her practice, she never actually had anyone call her beautiful so well the red grew darker.
Now she didn't mind being called beautiful or pretty, it was just something she was not used to at all. So she ran a hand through her hair, pushing it away from her face and giving Gaby a smile. She was nice, so far, and Amanda was actually enjoying herself for once.

Fear, it was something Gaby could sense like an animal. There were certain subtle signs in Amanda's body language that were giving it away. Her green eyes rolled for a moment before she sighed and stood up, leaning across the table and tilting the girl's face up to look her in the eye. "No need to be afraid of me Amanda, I wont hurt ya or anything. Besides, if you're scared I don't like you, that sort of fear is unnecessary. I like you a lot already just for sitting down and chatting." The touch of her hand was feather light, almost a ghost of a touch before she sat back down in her chair with a small smirk on her face, obviously quite satisfied with her work for now. Gaby had another problem, a self control problem. Now, it wasn't like she was going to pounce on this poor girl or anything. It was more along the lines of a child seeing an adorable puppy for the first time and wanting to hug into oblivion. Gaby though this girl was most definitely the cutest damn thing she'd ever seen and she'd been around quite a few chicks before.
"I'm glad you're not a judgmental person. To many of those sort of people like that out there, so a change of pace makes me happy." The senior reclined back in her chair stretching a little before looking back at the girl. Hopefully she wasn't as nervous as she was before, but it was rather charming the way she reacted to her compliments. It reminded her of Arizona, and the first girl she had ever dated. It was her longest relationship, having lasted three and a half years before her girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver. Since then she'd been single and not really looking for companionship. Well, a change of scenery definitely changed that.
"It'd make classes more tolerable to have someone like you around. Then I wouldn't have to listen to some weirdo teacher drone on and on about nothing that concerns me or my life. Seriously, where the heck am I going to use half of these theorems from calculus." she muttered, obviously unhappy with the topic of school classes. "Yeah and these bullshit half year courses decided to have final projects. Not exams, projects." She grumbled again. She hated finals she really did, back in Arizona she wouldn't have to worry about this crap. Either way though she had to deal with it. Her eyes lit up though at the conversation pertaining to guitars. "Aye, I play guitar. I have for years, taught myself everything I know." She said with a grin. Obviously she took pride in playing an instrument, and was now even happier that she found someone who played that instrument as well. "I tend to play softer songs as of late, not sure why but they've been more appealing to me right now."
At the mention of the girl's full name a smile spread on her face, "Gabrielle Lily O'Connor." Seems we're both in the boat of messed up names eh?" She grinned, "However, even your full name is pretty. It has a ring to it unlike a lot of other people's names." To be honest Amanda and Katrina were two of Gaby's favorite names for any girl. And so as she quieted for a moment as she saw the girl's face grow a darker shade of red. Dear god above help this woman, she was contemplating hugging this girl into oblivion. Instead for now she leaned back and returned the girl's smile with one of her own. It was a rare genuine smile that Amanda had recieved from Gaby. It was a sure sign Gaby was on a crash course of falling for this girl. Despite being tough as nails for the most part, even she had the one person in her life that could tame her like a kitten. However, Gaby never was one to rush things, nah, she'd wait until they hung out some more before thinking about asking this girl out.
It was only fair you know.

Amanda gave a shy smile and shrugged, she wasn't used to people being around her. Or actually wanting to be around her. Half the time she doesn't even like the person and she wants to punch them in the face. But this was different. Amanda was trying to break out of the shell she built herself after constantly being treated like shit. She was tired of having bad relationships with people so she just cut off people all together. And now she was trying to make friends again. Not all people could be like her mother? Could they? She thought so, but lately she met some nice people who were far from her mother. "Yeah I just..I don't know. I've always been afraid of people I guess."
She shrugged, she knew better than to not be judgmental. For obvious reasons of course. Though okay well her judgement when more towards that she was always afraid that everyone was the same. Ready to do something if anything got out of hand. She was unwilling to let her life sink back down to the bit of despair it was in before. She wouldn't let anyone hurt her like he did, no so she was hiding her trueself and keeping away from everyone she could. "I know what you mean," she said softly. Kind of anyway. Not exactly, cause most people weren't fooled and instead decided to pick on her even more.
"Yeah I practically just doodle or think in class, no need to actually pay attention. I litterly learned all of that before." She shook her head, god her life really really sucked. Or well her school life, she wanted to learn new things not learn old things. So yup she was bored out of her mind and just did her homework(and that stupid senior max's) but that was her ruitine. Now this talk about guitars was something she was happy to talk about with anyone. Even a guy, if he talked music, she'd feel a tad bit better. "Yeah i've been playing since i was about 14 or 15." She was surprised when she said she taught herself, so did amanda. But Amanda taught herself because she needed something to get rid of her sadness, and music was always her favorite. She loved to sing and listen to it, so why not play it? "I love playing Nirvana," she admitted with a smile. Nirvana was one of her all time favorite bands and playing the songs were just as fun. Obviously acoustic of course but still it was pretty damn fun.
She had to smile when the girl menioned her name. It wasn't all that bad, it was odd in a very good way. "I like your name. It's different and it fits." She smiled and shrugged, she didn't hate her name, because well her mother had once told her(before all the drama between them), that her father picked it out. And her father was the only man she would never hate. Okay so she was mad at him, but it wasn't his fault he died. It was her mother's fault for not taking care of her afterwards. That's what hurted her to most. But she didn't need to think about that so she tried to think of a way to change the subject from names, and found nothing. So instead she leaned back and gave a soft smile instead.

"Yeah I just..I don't know. I've always been afraid of people I guess."
Afraid of people? Well that must suck, however from looking at the girl she could tell she had a rough life. There were certain scars that people carried that were pretty noticeable to anyone who was perceptive enough to see. Normally this would be the awkward moment for Gaby and she'd rely on Lilee for help to get her off of an odd topic, yet some perverse part of her was mildly interested in this. She sighed, before giving her a softer smile than before. "Well like I said before, no need to be afraid of me." Gaby looked at the windows in the library as the snow began to fall again and she rolled her eyes at the weather. Obviously she was not used to the northeastern weather patterns, and having come from Arizona, she had every right to not be used to the weather up in the northeast. Back in her area it would be cool but still within the seventies or even eighties if they were lucky. Here it was in the negatives and dude was it freezing.
As the girl continued to speak, she was relieved to see someone else agreed with her in this world. Most people were so judgmental that if they looked different from the stereotype they were immediately labled as a freak and were always stayed away from. Sometimes Gaby wished people could go back to elementary school, go back to when the material things never mattered. The coolest kid was the one who had the most crayons or something trivial like that. Back when they were all kids was easy, nobody judged each other and everyone was friends. Then puberty hit and suddenly all those friends of hers went off to chase some guys, while she sat there pretty much unimpressed with any dude who even attempted to ask her out. It was in those lovely years of Junior High she made it known she wasn't interested in guys at the moment and had more.. important things to deal with.
Then came Highschool, and with it, Alex. God, her heart ached to even think of that name, Who knew where Alex was now, but Gaby assumed her former lover was out living it up in Hollywood, or Vegas. Looking back to Amanda the nostalgia hit her. It was like replaying the scene in her mind of her freshman year in highschool. But shrugging that feeling off for now, she heard the mention of Nirvana and grinned at the other girl. "You, little lady, have a great taste in music.I myself tend to write my own songs, but I'm inspired by bands like Nirvana, Nickelback, Various country songs and a guitarist by the name of Joe Satriani." God, did she feel like a geek. But in a good way, someone who understood the passion for music she had, and the passion for playing her instruments. Now, Gaby loved all genres of music, though had a somewhat soft spot for certain country artists for whatever reason. Mainly it was the lyrics that she was fond of.
She laughed at the girl's reaction to her name. Someone who actually liked it? That was a first, even for her. She looked at her notebook and then began to just idly doodle in it, the tattoo on her arm now becoming visible. The single solitary rose enveloped in lettering so elaborate that it was barely readable. 'All you need is love' was what it said, and it was a personal symbol for her. She knew girls and guys who had died because they were bullied about their sexualities or their identity. To write love on her arms day was every day for Gaby, she'd lost to many people to the ignorant assholes of the world. So, she had that now tattooed on her wrist as a constant reminder, that all you need is love. Her hip had a set of stars, in the constellation of Draco, slightly modified to fit the curves of her body. She chuckled a bit before studying her small doodle. A snake, something someone had referred to her as.
She could tell Amanda wasn't comfortable with the whole name conversation so she changed it. "How'd you end up here? My story is actually really funny."

And we were never alive And we won't be born again credit to lenalethal of caution 2.0Yeah it did suck. But Amanda just didn't like being around people, mostly guys but some girls she just rather not mess with. Though she was trying, she already made three? new friends this week. And one was a guy, so that was a major plus in her book. She wanted to get better, unlike most of the people in this school who seemed to just do the same things they did before they got here. Those were the things that annoyed her about the school. No one seemed to want to get better.Okay so that was a lie, plenty people didnt come here by choice. But hell neither did Amanda. She was forced by her old school because she was, 'mentally unstable' and could stab anyone at anytime. Whatever, she was not unstable, she just didn't like that guy standing close to her. That shouldn't of been a big problem. God, how would they like it if someone didn't leave them alone, fucking a. But she made the best of her stay here anyway.
Yes Amanda knew the judgement of people. She looked different and acted different, so bam, she has a problem. Okay she did have a problem. But still they all thought she had a problem before anyone knew she actually did. Everyone usually stayed away from her, even her own mother after awhile stopped trying to boss her around. Hell Amanda didn't need her no good mom telling her what to do when she wouldnt even listen to Amanda when she tried telling her about Max the guy she was dating along time ago. Her mom just blew her off and said she should stop making up lies and get over her petty need for her father. What? Amanda wasn't making any of the story up, but of course her mom wouldn't listen to her. So she wouldn't listen to her mother.
But Amanda never had any kind of healthy relationships with people until now. Of all places here was where she met some of the nicest people she knew. Here was where she met people she didn't despise or want to stab over and over. To her, that was just plain fucking wierd, but hell it wasn't the place it was the people. And Hope was amazingly cool that was for sure, and she knew about Amanda's past. She also believed her, which gave Hope tons of points. Hence why she'd protect her roomie at all costs. "Yeah I write some stuff," she said looking at her notebook. "Not very good stuff but stuff none the less." She gave a shy smile when she started talking more about music. So Amanda didn't personally like listening to all types of music because it'd just give her a headache with all the change in sounds. Old 80's rock was a lot less, loud. Okay so some was loud but not all of it, so she kept to that stuff when she was listening. Of course she didn't judge anyone who listened to other musics. And she always appreciated a good guitar player, no matter the genre of music.
Amanda gave a slight tilt of her head to read the words on Gaby's arm. So Amanda was never bullied and she had no friends, so obviously she didn't know anyone who had been. But she knew there were those judgemental people out there. Hell she was from a small town, but the people there just knew better. Everyone thought Amanda was a freak, and she happily accepted that. Hell no one messed with the 'freak' girl who stayed inside while everyone else was playing as a kid. She was never really sociable even back then. She wasnt going to mention anything about it, not wanting to be rude. But she started thinking about her own tattoos. She had multiple stars, one on the inside of her left wrist, a couple on her waist, one on her arm, and then a heart with D for dad on her right wrist. She only got them to piss of her mother, plus she thought the were pretty cool. She didn't get anything extravagent or nothing like that. Hell they were just stars.
Now this topic made amanda feel even more uncomfortable, okay so she could just tell the reason they picked her up. Not the reason she's afraid, that was personal and the only reason Hope knew was because she vented one day in the dorm after she got overly pissed. But hell she had to answer, "Um..I stabbed a guy so the school expelled me and it's a small town in North Dakota so only one school for three towns. And they say I was 'mentally unstable' but we all figured out that's not it at all." She shrugged, saying all of that in one breath to get it over with. She wanted to get off of this topic fast.
