Nathaniel wrote his notes, focusing almost completely on his work, only occasionally glancing up and around to take note of who was getting closer to him and his table. He had purposely picked a spot in the corner so he could have he back to the shelves and avoid any unexpected arrivals from behind him. This way he could see people coming and that put his mind at ease enough for him to be able to concentrate on his study.
This afternoon, it was science. Chemistry to be exact. It wasn't one of his favorite subjects but he did like it more than having to be in a crowd. The answers seemed to be coming to him fairly quickly and there was no problem at all. Books weren't scary or dangerous. There was nothing to fear there. Inanimate objects were great like that. This was why Nathaniel tended to pay more attention to them, reading each one from cover to cover and actually enjoying it. If he was in a park and reading a book, there was no reason for anyone to approach him and trigger another awkward situation. They were his escape and they saved him from having to deal with life.
Bitting the end of his pen lightly, Nathaniel stared down at the page. His brain ticking away with wheelings turning and brining him closer to the answers. It was a great distraction and Nathaniel welcomed it but after scribbling down the answer, he glanced up again, making sure no one had come close in that time.
Blue eyes returned to the page ad Nathaniel leaned in once again, reading and scribbling his notes, writing and learning, waiting for the next question to test his knowledge.

His messenger bag klunked at his side. Maxxie stopped in the fiction aisle and looked for a book he found interesting. It was quiet in the library, which is one thing he liked. Not that much personal confrontation. And, if he decided he wanted to take a book to his dorm to read, no one usually caught him. The library was one of the places he came often to steal. He had a thing for books, and this was his number one hit. Maxxie found a title that seemed interesting, and placed it inside his messenger bag.
He was pleased, so he decided to leave. Maxxie didn't act nervous walking out. That was the worst possible thing for him to do, acting nervous would only draw uneeded attention to him. He hadn't seen anybody as he strolled down one of the aisles to the exit door. His pace was normal, but slightly faster, as usual. As he passed one of the aisles something caught the corner of his eye. He ignored it at first, and walked on. Then his mind put it together that he passed a person, and if the corner of his eye it was a guy. He did have some time to waste, so Maxxie turned back to the kid.
his mind was right. it was another guy, who looked about his age. Maxxie felt a weird feeling in his stomach, but he wasn't sure if that was because he had not eaten lunch, or if he was attracted to the boy. He hadn't felt attraction to anyone ia awhile, especially not a another guy. Ever since his parents raped him when he was 12 and realized what was going on, he hadn't felt a strong attraction. But the attraction he had to the boy was by no means strong.
Maxxie took steps towards the table the boy sat alone at. What was he working on? Doodling in a library book, studying? He cleared his throat, making his presence known. "hey, I'm Maxxie," he stated as he sat himself down across from the boy.

Nathaniel immediately sat up straighter and glanced up when he heard a sound. In front of him was a guy about his age, blonde, really attractive, unfortunately Nathaniel never liked to dwell on that. Why even think it when he knew he wasn't going to let this guy get too close to him anyway? It was kind of a cruel trick his mind liked to play on him. The boy so lacked affection that he craved it but at the same time, he was so afraid of even letting someone touch him. It was big contradictory mess and it sucked but Nathaniel was used to it by now.
Nathaniel managed a small smile at the introduction. Not a lot of the people he had met so far would actually bother do introduce themselves. In fact, one even took to mocking him and making his life hell right from the start. Nathaniel had always been quiet and much too nice to stand up for himself against anyone who tried to bully him, especially anyone with a dominant personality like that guy had.
"I"m Nathaniel," he said quietly, licking his lips when he realized that they felt dry after all the focus on his study. He glanced down at his text book, tapping the back of his pen lightly against the page, wondering if he was suppose to have a conversation if this person. He never really did learn to get good at socializing, which made sense seeing as he spent most of his time avoiding it.

Maxxie stood behind the empty chair for a long while. The awkward silence between the two boys bothered. He hated being the one to start a conversation, he was only good at it after he had a drink. He had no idea why he even introduced himself to the boy in the first place. Did his hormones get to him? He wasn't really attracted to the boy, he couldn't be. Since his raping, he hadn't felt attraction to anyone. But was attraction the same thing as thinking someone was hot? Maxxie was confusing himself. His head spun in his confusion, and the silence didn't help him either. He just needed a sip. A sip to be able to engage himself in a conversation with the boy who sat across from him. What did he just say his name was? Nathaniel? Yeah, Maxxie heard right, wow his mind was in turmoil over the fact that he might be attracted to someone. He needed to calm himself. Maxxie took a deep breath as he bent down behind him into his messenger bag. His ass hung in the air, but only for a few moments as Maxxie stood back up to place. He held a tiny bottle in his hand and took a small sip of the liquid inside it. Calm ran through his body as the drink went down.
Maxxie sat on the chair in front of him. He had no idea what he wanted to say to the boy, but he was ready to break the silence. "So nathaniel," Maxxie paused. His heart was beating a little faster, but at a constant speed. "I think you are the first person I have seen in the library actually studying," Maxxie laughed, trying not to be awkward.

Nathaniel found himself watching the guy as he moved to get something out of his bag, only stopping as he bit his lower lip. He needed to look away. He couldn't show any kind of interest in the guy because that generally led to a conversation which led to questions and way too much closeness and things generally went down hill from there. Nathaniel was better off when you didn't know him at all. If he was just some guy who saw walking through the hallway, keeping to himself then it was all good, there would be no need to worry about anything.
Nathaniel watched as the guy took a drink from that bottle. Even something so simple looked so hot but that just made things worse. Nathaniel was definitely attracted to the guy but he'd never admit it. There would be no point at all since nothing would happen anyway. Why? Because he wouldn't let it. Nathaniel flinched at the slightest touch so nothing ever happened, too bad the things he was afraid of were the things he wanted most.
Nathaniel just stared at him, not wanting to say a word. Chemistry was the last thing on his mind now but the pen still stayed in his hand as though that might change in a moment. Even Maxxie's voice sounded hot.. What was with that? Was there even such a thing? That just sounded weird and crazy.
Nathaniel attempted a smile and looked down at his book. He wasn't doing a whole lot of study right now but then with a guy like that to distract you, it was entirely understandable.. "It's.. It's a good.. distraction," he said, stumbling a little with his words, but taking his time to get them out in order to avoid stuttering and making a fool of himself. He even kept his eyes on the page as he spoke. Usually he was fine around people until they came too close but with this guy being hot, it complicated the situation a little.

Maxxie wondered what was wrong with the boy he was talking to. "Talking"--because there was not much talking going on between the two of them. Now that Maxxie had a sip of alcohol, he felt like he could talk to the whole world, but Nathaniel was a huge plug in the communications. Maybe he was just anti-social, there were a few of those here, but Maxxie wasn't sure. He couldn't ask Nathaniel what he was here for, when the boy hardly talked to him, and Maxxie wanted to get him to talked more, the boy was good looking.
"Nathaniel...can I call you Nate? That would make my life so much easier," Maxxie asked him. Maxxie wanted him to talk. He had never been this interested in a guy before. He didn't want to do anything with him, but just to talk. Maxxie would have tried to flirt, but was afraid it might make Nathaniel even more quiet if he did.
Maxxie let out a loud sigh, and looked into the chemistry book the boy had. He didn't seem to be that into it, or even doing anything with it. Was he even doing chemistry homework? The more Maxxie sat there in the silence, the more he started to question Nathaniel. Maxxie got the feeling more and more that Nathaniel was anti-social. Maxxie could help him, if he needed it, but he needed Nathaniel to be accepting toward the idea. But why should Maxxie even help him? He had barely acknowledged his presence the whole time they both sat there.
Reaching over the table, Maxxie placed a couple fingers on Nathaniel's chin. He made the boy look at him for once, and not down at his chemistry book. "Look, if you don't want me here, I'll leave, just let me know," Maxxie stated. he took his fingers off the boy's skin and placed them back on lap, hoping that the boy would respond.

"Yeah sure," he said, even managing a half-smile in hopes of appearing a little more sociable than he was. A lot of people did and he didn't mind at all. What he didn't like was getting called Nathan and introducing himself as Nate generally led to that so telling someone his name was Nathaniel worked out better, as least for clarification's sake.
Nathaniel glanced back at his work. He wanted so much to be able to just write something down or at least look like he wasn't getting horribly distracted by Maxxie's mere presence. Unfortunately, looking at his book meant he wasn't paying as much attention to the boy who sat near him.
When fingers touched his chin, Nathaniel moved back quite suddenly, the sound of the chairs scraping against the floor sounded loud when surrounded by the silence of the library. He stood there for a moment, not looking at Maxxie but instead looking at the floor. Damn it, he thought. Maxxie would probably think he was completely insane now. Why did he had to overreact like that?
"Sorry.. I..," he said, before he even knew where he was going with that. Nathaniel took another moment before speaking. "No, you don't have to leave.. It's not you.. It's me.. Obviously," he said, referring to the whole nearly falling off his chair to get away thing. He took a deep breath before sitting back down. "Sorry," he said again, biting his lip, not able to look back at Maxxie except out of the corner of his eye.
