yes in fact it was a miracle he was here. and no he didn't have to sneak out. it was the schools weekly visit to the little sleeping town of....where ever they the hell they were. jake had woken up around an hour before the bus was suppose to leave to take them into town. that morning he got up and did the same thing he did every morning. he took a shower, brushed his teeth, attempted to fix his messy brown locks and got dressed. after he was all set, he stopped by the dining hall to grab something for breakfast.
then he went to the bus stop. man did he feel like a little kid going to a field trip, but then again he didn't have to go to this stupid town visit, of course it was going to town and wandering around on his own or staying here and try not to die of boredom. of course he choose the sane choice. he sat towards the back and made sure to sit down so that no one would try to sit with him. he watched the blur of the road and the trees outside his window as the bus began to pick up speed.
that had been around an hour ago. jake had disappeared as soon as the bus came to a stop. he just wandered around like a tourist, except he was more like a trapped tourist and he didn't have a camera. he noticed the light house and that it would be a good place to go and think. of course he never made it to the light house, seeing a tour group walking up the steps. he had decided to sit on the pier and look out towards the waves. and that's what he did until he heard the footsteps behind him. though he didn't turn around.

Carson had woken up early as per usual, and slowly moved around the room she shared with Deborah, keeping quiet because no one liked having someone wake you up when you weren't ready to. She had brushed her teeth, ran a brush through her curly and somewhat controlled curls, and then changed into some clothes to run in. She did her usual five kilometer run and changed into something a little less casual, remembering that today was the day that the students could go visit whatever town was nearest to them.
She wasn't one of the girls that would go window shopping instead preferring to walk around town and just find something to do. They made it to the town easily and Carson had gotten some of her energy finally. Walking calmly through town, she saw the usual things going on. Girls shopping, drinking coffee or whatever, smoking and just people having thier usual day. Being around them brought Carson down because sometimes she didn't think that she was normal and while sometimes that made her happy, today it just served to make her sad. So instead of wondering around and becoming ever sadder, Carson decided to go check out the lighthouse. If there were a ton of tourists, she'd probably skip out but there was that nice pier right by it.
Walking quickly, she made it to the lighthouse and putting her head in could hear the voices of lots of people. Deciding they probably were tourists, Carson turned herself towards the pier, not hesitating until she could make out another form on it. She then determinedly strode forward. It didn't matter and she had as much right to sit on the pier as the next person. She made it to the pier and her feet made a sound against the wood. Expecting the person to turn around, she was surprised when he didn't. Sitting down a few feet from him, Carson took of her shoes and socks and swung her feet over the dock, not caring that she couldn't reach the water.
Carson stayed silent for a few moments but she was never really fond of silence and so easily broke it. "Soooo, I'm Carson and you are?"

okay so maybe it did cause him to laughed a bit. it was just odd to him that the person didn't walk away or something. usually when someone didn't turn around and say something it meant that they couldn't care less who you are or what you are doing. but it was obvious this person was different. jake didn't removed his eyes from the gentle waves. it was like he was being hypnotized by the movement of the water. sure the pier was high enough that he couldn't reach it, but the waves moving back and forth would spray the unsuspecting victim with cold water.
only when the person sat down did he dare to look over to see who it was. surprised to see a girl sitting next to him. yes he had seen a girl before, but usually all the girls he would talk to and vice versa would talk or stay near him if one. they knew him or too they were that desperate to interact with another living thing. he looked at her, studying her every feature. she was pretty and blonde. he watched her remove her shoes and socks, wondering if she knew that there was no way she could reach the water, but he didn't say a word as he turned his attention back to the waves.
he sighed softly after hearing her speak. yeah this was totally not an awkward situation, though he had to reward her what should he call it....bravery or stubbornness to talk to someone she had never met before. of course he wasn't going to leave her hanging, he wasn't that big of a jerk."carson...that's nice. i'm jake."he said suddenly at a loss for words. not like he had any to begin with."tell me, your from that crazy school right."he said with a small smile.

"Well, nice to meet you Jake and thank you." Carson said a little excited. The silence continued for another minute or two before Jake broke it this time. "Ummm....yeah, I am. I'm a senior there this year. Do you go to the school?"Carson prayed he did because most people from the villiage were not content to hang around with her when they found out she went to Hawthorne. It kind of pissed her off how people could do that. Judge her by the school she was attending. Her senior year wasn't going to bad but she sort of wished she was back in Halifax with all of her friends getting ready to graduate together.
"Oh,ummm, sorry, I spaced out a little bit." Grinning apolegitically at him, Carson stopped the legs that had started swinging when she had spaced out. It was a habit of hers, and she really did hate that she couldn't break it. " So, did you tell me what year you were when I spaced out? And I am really sorry about that. Just thinking a little too hard about stuff." Grinning a little self-consiously, Carson looked down at her feet before once more bringing her head up to stare him in the eyes. Her parents had always told her to do so and she was finally getting alon with them so she believed she should use her parent's lessons.

he smiled at her politely once more."your welcome."he really wasn't much of a conversationalist. well he was, but only when he knew the person. right now, hard to believe but he was trying hard to actually keep this little conversation going. why he wanted to keep it going, he really had no idea. he was surprised by what she had admitted, he figured she was just a normal local here, to him it sounded like she didn't want to admit that. something he wouldn't want to admit either."yeah, and im a senior as well."he wondered if she had just been sent here, he had been here since his freshmen year. it was actually kind of sad to have to admit that, so he didn't.
she had been very quiet, one thing about conversations that jake didn't like, was the people who didn't really care about what you had to say. but she didn't seem like that, after all she had been apologizing. a small chuckle managed to escape his lips."don't worry about it, im too boring for my own good."he said jokingly. but since she had asked once more he began to speak."i just said i was a senior like you."he caught what she said and he shook his head."don't hurt yourself."he said teasingly.

Carson said quickly, "Oh, you're not boring. I've just got some issues probably like most of the school. Unfortunately, I started thinking of them during our conversation and it distracted me. And I never do. Although sometimes I could injure myself from doing something stupid." Carson remembered the day she had been running and twirling and jumping around the sports field and had come to close to the bleachers tripping over the first step and hitting her head, causing herself to have a slight cut there for a few days. Everyone had looked at her funny. She slowly started to laugh, trying to cover her mouth but finally couldn't help it and wrapped her arm around her stomach, laughing loudly.
After a few minutes, she managed to calm herself and between wheezes said breathlessly,"Just remembering one of those stupid things I tend to do. But they are funny. Sorry about that. You probably think I'm crazy." Carson didn't want him to think she was crazy but she sometimes did things that she was surprised didn't get her thrown in the looney bin. But that was the way she was and she couldn't help it. "So, any stupid moments that you laugh over or am I the only one?" Carson looked over at Jake curiously. She wondered if he had had moments like that if he would actually admit to them. Most people were amazed she admitted to some of the things she had done but she had no problem with her personality.

he smiled softly after hearing her say that he was not boring. he thought he was, especially since it had been so long since he actually was or had a conversation with someone. as soon as he had arrived here he became a recluse. he really didn't want to socialize with anyone. he didn't belong there. of course the only time he left his room was for classes after all this was a high school."well your not the only one with issues."he told her with a nod. sooner or later it was going to come up and he figured he'd ask. after all everyone was curious as to know why someone was stuck here."so what are you in for?"he asked her sounding, as if he was asking for what crime she had committed to be placed in that place.
he was a bit quiet after hearing her random ongoing laughter, he couldn't help but sigh glad that she wasn't crying. he had talked with people who were all happy one minute and then the next they were crying hysterically. he couldn't handle someone crying. it was like he made things worse. he smiled softly as she explained her reason as to why she had began to laugh."i understand just as long as you don't cry. there nothing wrong with laughing even if people do think your crazy."he said teasingly. "and nothing comes to mind for me."he told her with another nod.
