It was the middle of the day, classes were in session, and the campus was pretty much empty, while everyone was stuck in doors listening to boring lectures, taking impossible tests, and coming up with excuses for why they didn't finish their homework. Usually August was one of these people, sitting with his head in his hands staring at the wall, or falling asleep. He was pretty good at showing up for class, even if he didn't ever pay attention, or turn in his homework, but today he just didn't feel like it.. well, that wasn't true, he couldn't go to class, they'd know something was wrong with him.
That morning, while he had been planning on going to class, he had managed to get his hands on a brownie, you know, the special kind, and while it wasn't normally as strong as the things he liked to take, it was still kicking his ass as he walked into the student lounge, moving at about the pace of a snail going uphill. He had eaten it before class, but just as he'd been about to leave the dorm an hour later it had hit him, and now the poor boy was high out of his mind, not that that was unusual for him. People that saw him in the hallways simply smiled and waved at him, able to tell from his extremely bloodshot eyes and inability to react in time to say hello back that he was gone.
August pulled his teal jacket around him a little tighter, fixing the zipper so that it was pulled about halfway up his chest, exposing the rest. He'd forgotten to put on a shirt, but luckily he'd grabbed the jacket on the way out, so it would have to do. While his form fitting jeans looked fine, his feet sported only socks, no shoes. He'd forgotten that little detail too.
He yawned as he made his way into the empty lounge, where he managed to watch an hour of spongebob, laughing just a little too loud, but apparently he didn't attract the attention of anyone else. After awhile he found himself needing to move, and about fifteen minutes later he had constructed a fort out of blankets from his room and two of the couches he had pushed together. He cuddled into one of the blankets he'd placed inside of his little fort and closed his eyes, forgetting that he was supposed to be in class, and that it probably was against the rules to skip class to build a fort in the student lounge.

'finally.' it was the first thought that crossed elana's mind as she hurried the hell out of her last class. she needed a fix, and she needed it fast. usually the type to either skip class to have a joint, or smoke one before class, she had a hell of a day without one. this new school was hell, she had only one connection compared to the group of people she could hit up. though she liked staying under the radar and not knowing a bunch of people, that didn't mean she didn't miss her old group of friends. well it was more she missed having them there, so easy to call up and say, 'got a smoke?'. instead she was stuck with the cigarettes she was so easily good at sneaking in. she had that charming personality that got many people hooked, and though usually it was a pain, she liked to use it for her own purposes. like with the cute guy at the convenient store in town. she stopped by, flirted and asked for a pack of cigarettes, he didn't even think to ask for an id. which was good for her, cause she was far from eighteen.
she had been walking for almost ten minutes and her feet were killing her, though she didn't want to go to her dorm. it was too small for her liking, and even if marilyn was there she'd feel suffocating and want out. so better to avoid it all together, though avoiding was bad when you were wearing heels. why did she think heels were sensible shoes for school? then again she always wore heels to school, it was a hard habit to break, she just liked looking good. it wasn't a sin to look good and stuff, or not that she new. plus sins were reserved for those who even believed in god, and she wasn't sure she was one of those people. where was god when she was being harmed as a child? she didn't see him protecting her, so how could someone not protect an innocent child. the only answer was, he didn't damn exist.
of course this broke her heart, because no matter what she still wanted to hold that small childish dream that god will finally save her. it was like a security blanket, kept her from worrying about all the hurt life threw at her, cause she felt no matter what, god would be there. though, now that she knew he wasn't coming, her whole world was turned upside down. thinking of this made a small tear come to her eye as she finally came to a place that was empty. of course most places would be empty, cause she had extra credits thanks to online courses she took to get out of school early. she persuaded them to give her a free period for 'studying' instead of making her take junior classes. they said sure, and here she was with an extra period.
pretty sure the room was empty she walked in, kind of sad now that she'd be alone. she didn't want to just be bored sitting down watching tv like a moron. no elana wanted at least one person to keep her company, as long as there weren't tons, making her feel closed in and scared to death. looking around the room, taking in everything, her eyes finally landed on the fort. smiling she hoped some person was under there, and she kicked off her heels, walked over and kneelled down. spotting the boy under it, her smile brightened just slightly, "hey under there."

He had almost fallen asleep in his nice, comfortable tent, when the sound of someone walking into the room caused his eyes to snap open. "Shit.." He whispered the sharply, holding his breath while he listened to the footsteps coming closer. He was high out of his mind, his eyes were completely blood shot, and he couldn't even pretend to be sober if he wanted to, he was definitely getting caught for this. He mentally cursed himself for being stupid enough to come to such a public and open place to enjoy his extreme high, and let out a small sigh, waiting for the impending punishment.
August watched as a figure knelt down beside the fort, Elana's face coming into view shortly afterward. He let out a rather loud sigh of relief and smiled at her sleepily, his eyes half open. Seeing her was like seeing an angel at the moment, way better than seeing a staff member that was going to get him into trouble and kill his high. "Well hello there beautiful. How're you doing?" His voice was slow and lazy, his eyes closing a couple times throughout the two sentences. He lifted his head a little from his blanket, then slowly sat up, letting out a yawn as he did so. August stretched his hands out, pressing against the top of the fort, then hugged his blanket close to him. "Come in, come in. There's plenty of room in my castle."
