problem: luce can't sleep. i guess you could call her an insomniac. she doesn't really have a reason behind her not sleeping, she's had it quite easy her entire life. often times she worries about not being able to get into a good school, however, and maybe this is what keeps her up at night. it's probably not, because something else more important happened recently.

overall: luce is a pretty normal girl. she's always loud, always and never knows when enough is enough. her moods change over one thousand times in a minute and well. yeah. luce is a good friend and a really weird girlfriend. she's more likely to get stuck in the friend's with benefits stage in a relationship because of her awkwardness. yeah, she's awkward. it's bizarre because she's one of the most confident people you'll probably ever meet. luce knows what she wants to do and she does it unless someone tells her otherwise. she's not a very strong willed person. one can easily take advantage of her and she won't even care. well, she would, but she wouldn't act like she did.

history: luce was born to rachel sawyer at nineteen years old while she was attending UCLA. seems very cliche and it was. rachel had been a typical party girl and after one night with a certain ginger boy named caleb, she had this baby. rachel knew she was too young to raise a child on her own and she didn't want to have to tell caleb he was the father, (she barely even knew him) so after luce was born, she sent her off to go live with her grandparents.
patty and frank were good parents and grandparents to luce. they raised her well and made sure she had a real childhood. fishing and camping trips in the woods were frequent weekend activities and well, luce had it easy. luce got used to calling her grandparents "ma" and "pa" because they wouldn't let her call them mom and dad like other kids. she was attached, having never met her real mother and father. rachel hardly even called, except for once to say she was getting married when luce was seven. that was the first time luce had ever really spoken to her mother and when she asked if she could go live with her, rachel laughed. "no honey, i don't want to disrupt your life with your grandparents." and luce hated her mother for six years because of her saying that.
she hated her mother until she was thirteen years old and patty and frank decided to take their luce to their family reunion. the whole family was going camping in the mountains and luce already loved camping, so why not? and so she went and so did rachel. it's weird how luce just kind of knew rachel was her mother. they looked nothing alike. rachel was a bubbly blond woman with a well educated guy on her arm and it just didn't work out. the way she smiled at her affected luce forever. that was awful for her and wonderful all at the same time and luce would never forget it.
three months ago, francis got very sick. he and luce were really close, best friends even. it was he who got her into camping and everything and who taught her how to say pa and everything and when he got sick, luce just couldn't take it. he caught the pneumonia and it was almost impossible that he'd live. he died in their home on december eleventh, two thousand ten and luce hasn't really been able to sleep since.
