problem: drug addict, particularly heroin, but he's dabbled in pot and steroids. if he doesn't wake up and take a hit, his day has already started off wrong. usually, his withdrawal symptoms start after 8 hours, so he gets a fix before the 12th. if he passes that time frame, zach feels intense muscle and bone pain. it's like his skin is crawling and the only way to stop it is to tear it off. that's how bad it is. other symptoms are restlessness, insomnia, vomiting, and cold flashes with goosebumps. he used to snort it, so that there wouldn't be any track marks behind (since being a star athlete meant walking around in tanktops and such), but his preferred method is intravenous (injected), knowing that gives the best high. also, aggressive anger plays a part in his demeanor, since he's gotten into physical fights and it's hard for him to control his temper. usually, ignorant remarks set him off.

overall: gifted with a gorgeous head of light blonde hair, full lips, and twinkling bright blue eyes, zach usually greets strangers and acquaintances alike with a disarmingly charming smile. he's an athlete, and although he's traditionally appealing, he's not perfect. he uses glasses to read, which trashed his first dream of becoming a pilot when he was a kid (no 20/20 vision, no deal and all). his clothes tend to be laid-back with the occasional tie or scarf, like a buttoned down plaid shirt and loose jeans, or even a hoodie if the weather permits. nothing special, unless the circumstance calls for it. he always likes having a pocket somewhere on him to "stash the goods." he stands at 6'0" and weighs somewhere around 160 lbs.

dislikes: being called "a disappointment," egotistical jerks, having little control over his temper, meds that make you drowsy, closed-minded people, green m&ms.
strengths: his natural charm, being friendly and sweet, confident, good liar.
weaknesses: his sister, his temper, his addiction (and lack of desire to change), cute boys, being a people pleaser.
secrets: that he may have failed the urine test on purpose, the fact that he might be gay, that he feels like his parents didn't do enough to find belle when she was kidnapped.
worst memory: the day that belle was kidnapped. not only did he lose his sister, but she was also his best friend.
best memory: scoring the winning touchdown on the same day that he was suspended was one of the best feelings in the world, second only to the day that belle came home.
desires: to be an athlete, reconnecting with belle, getting his parent's approval.
pet peeves: jerks, homophobes, the whole "dumb jock" stereotype.
overall: zach is pretty much the boy next door. he's usually wearing a smile and he always tries to see the good in people or situations. he's funny, very smart, a sweetheart, and easy to get along with. despite growing up in a privileged household, he's normally pretty humble and low maintenance. most of his friends are like his family and he'd do anything for them. something else he'll do anything for? that's right, drugs. apart from his addiction, zach has a bit of an anger management problem. he's gotten into his fair share of fights back at his old school, mostly when they used offensive terms and it just didn't sit well with him. he hates that he can't control his temper as much as he'd like, so sometimes he gets angrier at himself than at others. he's also pretty easily influenced and manipulated, but zach won't stand for anyone badmouthing his sister or his friends.

history: zachery jase beecher was the second child of the beecher family. he was pretty popular from a very young age, a quality that he seemed to share with his sister, anna. see, he always had leadership qualities and a natural charm that drew people towards him without even trying. he was a happy little boy that was working towards becoming a football quarterback later in his academic career, until he was twelve and his big sister was abducted. zach tried to stay positive, knowing in his heart that she would find her way back somehow, but his foundation was crumbling.
now that anna was missing, all of the pressure to be the perfect son was placed on his shoulders and his freedom was restricted. he had a curfew, barely any personal space, and his parents were constantly hounding him (when they weren't fighting with one another, that is). the only way that zach found some kind of release was through football, but even then his father was pretty hard on him. they were all hurting, he knew that, so he just swallowed his pride and tried his best. he had good grades and a healthy exercise regimen, but then he entered high school and all of his priorities seemed to go right out the window.
at first it was just a little pot, some drinking, and experimenting. not just with drugs, but with his sexuality. zach had always been expected to like girls, to grow up and have a family with the picket fence and the 2.5 kids, after graduating from a top notch university with a football scholarship. but as he opened his eyes to the real world, he discovered that not everything is black and white. maybe it wasn't a mistake to look at other guys in the locker room, or to be upset when they used offensive terms (that even led to some physical fights). but all those maybes were locked up in the back of his mind when anna (now belle) returned to them and zachery dismissed those thoughts as a part of his "dark ages."
his sister was very different upon her return. in fact, she didn't even want to be called "anna" anymore, which was very hard for him to accept. when she was sent off to hawthorne, zach got a bit depressed and met a girl named alliya. she introduced him to heroin and all sorts of happy pills, among them being steroids. one day after football practice, their coach informed them that they would be taking urine samples. zach never had a problem about it before, since he always had a reliable source to help him out, but he was too stoned to make the switch (though there is some speculation that he did it on purpose) and they detected drugs in his sample. the school informed his parents, after kicking him off of the football team and publicly humiliating him.
soon after, the beecher family shipped zach off to hawthorne academy as well, a quick solution to a not-so-small problem.
