beatrice "birdie" leigh powers. fifteen. manic depressive disorder (bipolar). level and membergroup(leave blank) ms. birdie leigh powers was born beatrice leigh powers-jenks on june thirtieth, nineteen-ninety five. when she was 6 months old, her parents dropped her hyphenated name to just 'powers'. when she was old enough to understand fully just what her first name was, she was horrified by it and since then, her parents have called her birdie. that was her favorite animal back then. it isn't now, but birdie still appreciates not being called 'beatrice.'
birdie grew up a privileged life in austin, texas, born to a couture, fanciful mother and a father who raked in enough dough as a computer engineer to keep her out of a job and living large in austin. you know, the type of mother that acts elegant and hosts many dinner parties and blows money on clothes and bags and jewelery. thus, birdie became like this as well. she was given the best in everything, clothes, food, housing (they lived in a ritzy, out of place, huge victorian) and education (private schools.) the incredibly spoiled child grew up thinking she'd never have a problem in the world, she'd grow up and marry a rich guy and he'd take care of everything for her, while she lived the high life. she learned to be snobby, demanding, and act all queen-like, following in her mothers footsteps. but not all was well for birdie.
when birdie started acting unusual, her parents popped a blood vessel scrambling to figure out what was wrong with their perfect daughter, and fix her somehow. birdie's moods were all over the place, she'd be extremely cheerful one moment and in tears the next, or viciously angry and then, suddenly, calm, relaxed. her parents did not know how to deal with this erratic behavior. they took her to a psychiatrist who suggested looking back into their family tree to see who else could have possibly had manic depressive disorder, as it was said to be connected through hereditary ties. they discovered that her great grandmother had had it, so birdie was fully diagnosed. all of a sudden, there was talk of medication, and people kept looking at her like she was crazy when they found out. though she had been popular in school, word got out and she was suddenly shunned by everyone. they scribbled PSYCHO all over her locker. desperate and confused, birdie tried to kill herself on her medication. she was found on the bathroom floor by her mother, but got her stomach pumped in time at the hospital before she died from the overdose.
her mother had no mercy on her after that, even though birdie really needed her. she shipped her off to hawthorne, never to be spoken of again.
